AltyNa

Description:

Sodium chloride , is an essential electrolyte and mineral necessary for various physiological functions in the human body. The tablets are typically used for specific medical purposes where there is a need to replenish or regulate sodium levels.
Sodium chloride tablets are designed to provide a controlled and measured amount of sodium, a critical electrolyte, to address specific medical conditions or situations where there is a need for sodium supplementation.
Sodium chloride is the major component of the extracellular fluid of many organisms

Category: Electrolyte Imbalance

Composition:

Each film-coated tablet contains Sodium Chloride 1.0 gram

Mechanism of action:

Sodium chloride tablets are primarily used in the management of hyponatremia, a condition characterized by lower-than-normal levels of sodium in the blood. The mechanism of action of sodium chloride tablets in treating hyponatremia involves providing a controlled and measured amount of sodium to help restore and maintain the balance of electrolytes in the body.
Sodium chloride, when ingested in the form of tablets, dissociates into sodium ions (Na+) and chloride ions (Cl-) when it dissolves in the stomach.
The sodium ions contribute to the osmotic balance in the extracellular fluid, helping to draw water into the bloodstream from the surrounding tissues.
The increased sodium levels in the bloodstream create an osmotic gradient that leads to the movement of water from areas of lower solute concentration (inside cells or interstitial spaces) to areas of higher solute concentration (bloodstream).
This redistribution of water helps restore normal extracellular fluid volume and dilutes the excess of water causing hyponatremia

Renal Effects:

Sodium chloride also influences renal function. The kidneys play a crucial role in maintaining electrolyte balance, including sodium. Adequate sodium levels in the bloodstream signal the kidneys to excrete excess water, helping to correct hyponatremia by reducing water retention.

Purpose

Electrolyte Replenisher

Indications

It is used to treat Hypernatremia (low sodium levels) caused by certain disease conditions of Kidney, Liver and Heart.
Hyponatremia remains the most common electrolyte imbalance. It is particularly problematic in hospitalised elderly patients where it is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and, therefore, should not be ignored. It is indicated in SIADH (Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone).
While SIAD remains the most common cause of hyponatremia in the elderly, accurate and prompt identification of the cause is essential in the management process.
As an electrolyte replenisher for the prevention of heat cramps due to excessive perspiration.

Dosage:

The 1 gm. strength indicates the amount of sodium chloride in each tablet. Dosage recommendations are determined by a healthcare professional/Doctor based on the specific needs of the patient and the medical condition being treated.
The tablets are typically taken orally with a specific amount of water, as directed by a Doctor. It's important to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions closely.
Sodium chloride tablets should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Self-prescription or misuse can lead to adverse effects and complications.
