Criticut DS
Description:
Criticut DS contains Alpha-ketoanalogues, often called ketoanalogues, which are a class of compounds related to amino acids. They are used in medical nutrition therapy, particularly in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). These compounds are nitrogen-free alternatives to essential amino acids. Ketoanalogues are typically prescribed in the form of tablets to individuals with CKD who are on a protein-restricted diet.
Individuals with CKD must manage their nitrogen intake because impaired kidney function may lead to an accumulation of nitrogenous waste products. Alpha-ketoanalogues offer a way to provide essential amino acids without introducing additional nitrogen, helping to reduce the burden on the kidneys.
Alpha-ketoanalogues are often used as a supplement to a low-protein diet. The goal is to maintain adequate nutrition while minimizing the intake of protein, which can contribute to elevated levels of urea and other nitrogenous waste products in the blood.
Category: Renal Nutrition
Indications
Alpha ketoanalogues(Criticut DS) are indicated in the Prevention and treatment of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic kidney disease in connection with a limited dietary protein intake of 40 g/day or less (adult). Usually, this applies to patients whose glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is less than 25 mL/min. The use of alpha-keto analogues is considered part of a comprehensive strategy to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease. By managing nitrogen balance and supporting nutritional needs, alpha-keto analogues contribute to preserving kidney function.
Composition:
Criticut DS contains double the strength of traditional alpha ketoanalogue tablets to reduce the pill burden in CKD patients for better patient compliance to the prescribed dosage thus improving the treatment outcomes.
Mechanism of action:
Relieves uremic states, improves nutritional states, slow down illness progression, and protects kidney functions. Following absorption, the keto- and hydroxy-analogues are transaminated to the corresponding essential amino acids by taking nitrogen from non-essential amino acids, thereby decreasing the formation of urea by re-using the amino group. Hence, the accumulation of uraemic toxins is reduced.
Purpose
Medical nutrition therapy, particularly in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). These compounds are nitrogen-free alternatives to essential amino acids.
The purpose of alpha-ketoanalogues is to preserve the nutritional status of individuals with CKD, supporting their overall health and well-being. By supplying essential amino acids without the associated nitrogen load, these compounds contribute to a comprehensive nutritional approach for patients managing kidney disease.
Indications
Prevention & therapy of kidney damage in CKD with protein-restricted diet.
To manage uremia in CKD patients and to complement a low-protein diet. Providing essential amino acids without the associated nitrogen, help meet nutritional needs while minimizing the production of nitrogenous waste.
The goal is to minimize the intake of protein while still meeting the body's essential amino acid requirements. This dietary approach helps reduce the workload on the kidneys and can slow the progression of kidney disease.
Dosage:
1 tab/10 kg body weight/day along with meal divided in 3 equal dosages Moreover, the dosage and administration of Criticut DS depend on the individual's nutritional needs and the severity of their kidney disease
Presentation:
One carton contains 10 strips of 10 tablets each.
